Justice and Witness
The Justice and Witness Group of Pioneer Congregational United Church of Christ seeks to act as a prophetic witness to the Christian faith for social justice and peace.
We speak to society and to, not for, the church. We are a group in, not a committee of, the church. Any member or friend of the church is warmly invited to join us.
We Speak
We speak to society by such actions as communicating to the public and elected officials and joining with other Christian, interfaith, and secular groups in public statements, events, coalitions, and other activities. We speak to the church by offering the congregation information on all our activities, inviting the congregation to be both hearers and doers of the word, and participating in the wider justice and peace ministries of the United Church of Christ, the National Council of Churches/Faithful America, and the California Council of Churches/Church IMPACT.
We Listen
Believing that God is still speaking, we listen for God's voice by:
Study of the relevant statements of the United Church of Christ (General Synod, Justice and Witnesses Ministries, and Northern California-Nevada Conference),
the National Council of Churches/Faithful America, and the California Council of Churches/Church IMPACT, and other relevant texts and materials related to
peace and social justice.
Consultation with the pastor.
Prayerful discernment, including free expression of thoughts and ideas.
We do not take God's name in vain by claiming to be the exclusive voice of God. We do not say or imply that our interpretations are the only true Christian views. We do not support or oppose any candidates or political parties.
Our Justice and Witness Group meets at 11:30 a.m. on the fourth Sunday of each month in the church Choir Room. All are invited.
